Delegates of the Motorsport Kenya Federation (MKF) on Friday elected Altaf Ganatra as President at the Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club in Nairobi on Friday, handing him a four-year mandate to steer motorsport in Kenya.
Ganatra will be deputised by renowned rally driver Carl Tundo.
Speaking after the elections, Ganatra thanked delegates for their confidence and outlined a vision focused on building strong institutions and promoting youth participation in motorsport.
“We have just held our inaugural election for Motorsport Kenya Federation, and we hope to push motorsport in the right direction,” he said.
“We are looking forward to putting up structures that are strong and will withstand the test of time. We also want to focus on youth development as we move forward and ensure that young people get opportunities in motorsport.”
His deputy, Carl “Flash” Tundo, is one of Kenya’s most decorated rally drivers, while Erick Bengi takes up the role of Secretary General, responsible for the federation’s day-to-day administration. Sangita Gohil was elected Treasurer, tasked with overseeing the federation’s financial affairs.
The election formally establishes MKF as Kenya’s National Sporting Organisation, also known as the Autorité Sportive Nationale (ASN), with the mandate to regulate, promote and develop motorsport across the country.
As the recognised ASN, the federation becomes the sole custodian of Kenya’s motorsport framework, overseeing competitor and official licensing, safety and technical standards, event sanctioning, dispute resolution, and the country’s relationship with global motorsport governing bodies.
The formation of MKF is viewed as a modernising step that seeks to strengthen governance in a sport that has grown significantly in profile, particularly following the return of the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally to the international calendar.
The federation’s priorities are expected to include improving event safety, increasing marshalling capacity, expanding the domestic calendar beyond rallying into circuit racing, autocross, karting and emerging disciplines, while also growing the sport’s commercial base through structured sponsorship and broadcast partnerships.
