Veteran Kenyan football coach Abdallah Juma has died after a prolonged battle with diabetes and pancreatic cancer, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has confirmed.
In a statement, FKF mourned the former coach, extending condolences to his family, friends, former players and everyone whose lives he touched through football.
"FKF joins the football fraternity in mourning the passing of coach Juma Abdalla. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, former players, and everyone whose lives he touched through the beautiful game. May his legacy continue to inspire generations, and may his soul rest in eternal peace," read the statement.
According to his family, the tactician passed away at 1:00 am on Friday at Thika Level 5 Hospital, where he had been admitted for the past three days. He will be laid to rest later today at 4:00 pm in Murang’a Town in accordance with Islamic rites.
His death comes weeks after family, friends and members of the football fraternity appealed for financial support towards his treatment after his condition deteriorated, leaving him unable to walk.
During a coaching career spanning more than two decades in Kenya’s top-flight and second-tier football leagues, Juma managed several clubs, including the now-defunct Thika United, Chemelil Sugar, KCB FC, Bidco United, Western Stima, FC Talanta, Vihiga Bullets and Murang’a SEAL. He also served as an assistant coach at AFC Leopards.
The veteran coach was widely recognised for nurturing young talents and helping develop players who went on to represent the national team. His passing leaves a significant gap in Kenyan football.
At Radio Generation, our thoughts are with his family, friends and the entire football fraternity. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
