After threatening to boycott the 2026/27 Kenya Premier League (KPL) season, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and FKF Premier League clubs have agreed to establish a seven-member transition committee to develop a roadmap for the future management of Kenya’s top-flight football league.
The resolution to form the committee was reached during a meeting between FKF officials and Premier League club representatives in Nairobi on Wednesday. Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier was appointed to chair the committee.
The clubs maintained their stance against participating in a league operated solely under federation control, arguing that a more autonomous structure would promote professionalism, transparency and commercial growth.
The committee is expected to hold its first meeting next week and will make recommendations on the legal and governance framework needed to move the league towards a more independent structure, while allowing the 2026/27 season to proceed as planned on August 22.
FKF President Hussein Mohammed said the meeting marked another step towards improving Kenya’s premier football competition.
The FKF Premier League has been operating under the direct control of the federation, a structure that has faced opposition from clubs, who argue that it limits commercial opportunities and financial benefits compared to an independent league model.
