Fiorentina sack Fabio Grosso after three straight Serie A defeats

Fabio Grosso’s time at Fiorentina has come to an abrupt end after only three Serie A matches, with the club dismissing the coach following a run of three consecutive defeats.

The 48-year-old was shown the door on Sunday, barely three months after taking charge of the Italian club. Grosso had arrived in June following a successful two-year spell with Sassuolo, but he was unable to turn that form into results at Fiorentina.

His short reign began with a heavy 4-0 defeat away to Roma on the opening weekend of the Serie A season. Things failed to improve in the second match as Fiorentina suffered another setback, this time losing 3-0 at home to newly promoted Frosinone.

The poor run continued on Saturday when Torino claimed a 2-1 victory at Fiorentina, leaving Grosso without a single point from his first three league matches.

The club confirmed his dismissal in a brief statement shared on social media.

"Fiorentina announce that Fabio Grosso has been relieved, effective today, of his duties as coach of the men's first team," Fiorentina said in a short statement posted on social media.

Grosso's departure comes after Fiorentina once again found themselves struggling at the start of a Serie A campaign. The club also endured a difficult opening to last season before eventually managing to stay in the top flight.

Grosso had taken over from Paolo Vanoli, who was dismissed in May despite guiding La Viola to safety after replacing Stefano Pioli.

For Grosso, the latest setback marks a disappointing end to a tenure that lasted only three league games. The former Italy international had been brought in after his work at Sassuolo, but his Fiorentina side failed to collect a point before the club decided to make another change in the dugout.

Grosso, who was part of Italy's 2006 World Cup-winning team as a player, now leaves Fiorentina after just three matches in charge.
