Detectives have recovered 105 suspected stolen mobile phones, two laptops and assorted phone accessories during a raid on a business premises in Madogo Township, Garissa County.
In a statement by the National Police Service on Monday, two suspects were arrested after the operation, which was launched following intelligence linking the establishment to the handling of suspected stolen electronic devices.
The operation, conducted along Mums Street in Madogo Township, forms part of an ongoing crackdown by the National Police Service (NPS) on the trade in suspected stolen electronic devices and other criminal activities.
According to police, the raid was mounted after investigators received information linking the premises to the handling of suspected stolen property. Officers moved in and recovered the electronic devices before arresting two suspects believed to be connected to the business.
"A police operation targeting the illicit trade in suspected stolen electronic devices culminated in the recovery of 105 assorted mobile phones, two laptops, and an assortment of mobile phone accessories," the National Police Service said in a statement.
The two suspects have since been placed in lawful custody and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
Police said detectives are now working to identify complainants whose stolen devices may be among the recovered items, urging anyone who has recently lost electronic gadgets to cooperate with investigators.
The operation, authorities said, demonstrates the government's continued efforts to disrupt criminal networks involved in handling stolen property.
"The operation underscores the sustained efforts of the National Police Service to combat the handling of stolen property and all forms of criminality," the statement added.
The NPS also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
