Two suspects have been arrested, and a stolen Isuzu FRR lorry recovered in Teso South, Busia County, after detectives intercepted the vehicle during routine patrols along the Adungosi-Buteba road.
In an X update on Monday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the lorry, registration number KAR 906Z, was stolen in Naivasha on Sunday, August 16, 2026, before being traced to the Teso South area.
Detectives from Teso South, working alongside officers from Adungosi Police Station, intercepted the white lorry during patrols and arrested the two men who were travelling in the vehicle.
The vehicle, a white Isuzu FRR lorry with registration number KAR 906Z, was recovered intact during the operation.
The DCI identified the suspects as Ayo Haruna, a Ugandan national who was driving the lorry, and his alleged accomplice, Kipserem Abdalla.
The two suspects were taken into custody and are being held as investigations continue. According to the DCI, they are awaiting collection for further processing by detectives from Naivasha, where the vehicle was originally reported stolen.
The recovery followed a swift response by detectives after the lorry was reported stolen.
Its interception in Teso South, several hundred kilometres from Naivasha, points to the possibility that the suspects were attempting to move the vehicle away from the area where it was stolen.
The DCI said the suspects were apprehended during routine patrols along the Adungosi-Buteba road, highlighting the role of police road checks and patrols in identifying vehicles linked to reported crimes.
The agency said the suspects would be subjected to further processing by DCI officers from Naivasha as investigations seek to establish how the vehicle was stolen, its intended destination and whether other people were involved.
“Detectives from Teso South, in collaboration with officers from Adungosi Police Station, have apprehended two suspects and recovered a stolen Isuzu FRR lorry that was stolen in Naivasha on August 16, 2026,” the DCI said.
“The officers, while on routine patrols along the Adungosi – Buteba road, intercepted the lorry, registration number KAR 906Z, white in colour, arresting the driver, Ayo Haruna, a Ugandan national, and his accomplice, Kipserem Abdalla,” it added.
The suspects remain in police custody pending further investigations and processing. Authorities are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the theft and the route taken by the lorry from Naivasha to Teso South.
The recovery comes amid continued efforts by Kenyan law enforcement agencies to track stolen vehicles and disrupt networks involved in vehicle theft and movement across counties.
The DCI urged members of the public to continue providing information that could assist investigations into criminal activities.
The agency encouraged members of the public to report information anonymously through its toll-free number or WhatsApp platform.
The DCI said members of the public can report suspected criminal activity through 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.
The two suspects are expected to undergo further processing at DCI Naivasha as investigators continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the theft and recovery of the lorry.
