DCI arrests three suspected drug traffickers in Homa Bay, Nairobi and Mombasa

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested three suspected drug traffickers in separate intelligence-led operations across Homa Bay, Nairobi and Mombasa as it intensifies a nationwide crackdown on narcotics trafficking.

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) recovered suspected cannabis linked to the suspects, including a haul worth an estimated Sh2.76 million in Homa Bay and another consignment concealed inside a sack declared to contain dried cassava in Mombasa.

Taking to its X account on Friday, the agency said the operations form part of a broader effort to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating across the country.

In Homa Bay County, detectives from the DCI Anti-Narcotics Unit, working jointly with officers from Oyugis Police Station, arrested Carren Adhiambo Akoth, who had been on the run after detectives recovered 91.94 kilograms of cannabis worth approximately Sh2.76 million from her residence in Oyugis on June 14.

According to investigators, the suspect disappeared immediately after the drugs were seized, prompting detectives to launch an extensive search that culminated in her arrest after weeks of investigations and intelligence gathering.

"In Homa Bay County, a joint team of detectives from DCI ANU Homa Bay and officers from Oyugis Police Station arrested Carren Adhiambo Akoth, who had been on the run after detectives recovered 91.94 kilograms of cannabis worth approximately Sh2.76 million from her residence in Oyugis on June 14, 2026. The suspect vanished after the seizure, but detectives kept the trail alive. Through sustained investigations and actionable intelligence, they trailed her down to her hideout, where she was arrested. She is expected to be arraigned in court to face charges related to narcotics trafficking."

In a separate operation, detectives from the DCI Anti-Narcotics Unit in Isiolo arrested Ramadhan Wache, a booking clerk responsible for receiving parcels at a bus company office in Nairobi.

Investigators said he had been hiding in Nairobi's Eastleigh area and is linked to a narcotics trafficking case following the interception of a consignment of suspected narcotic drugs at the Archers Post checkpoint on August 5, 2026. He has since been escorted to Isiolo Police Station and is being processed ahead of his arraignment.

Meanwhile, detectives in Mombasa launched investigations after the management of a bus company reported that a sack declared to contain dried cassava had burst open while being offloaded from a passenger bus, exposing 15 packages of suspected cannabis concealed inside.

Follow-up investigations led detectives to arrest Millicent Adhiambo and Melvin Achieng, who are believed to be linked to the consignment. The suspected narcotic drugs were seized and preserved as exhibits as investigations continue.

The DCI commended members of the public for providing actionable information, saying public cooperation has played a crucial role in supporting efforts to combat narcotics trafficking.

The agency urged members of the public to continue sharing information with law enforcement, saying intelligence from citizens remains critical in identifying traffickers, intercepting illegal drug consignments and strengthening the country's efforts to combat narcotics trafficking.
