DCI detectives in Kisauni have arrested a key suspect and rescued two minors who were allegedly abducted from Sensera, Kiembeni, on August 25 and later confined in an empty room in Kiambu County.
The children were reported missing on August 27, prompting investigations that led detectives to Caleb Okumu Ngwena, who is accused of abducting them with an accomplice who remains at large.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects forced the children to cut off communication with their families before transferring them to Kiambu, where they were held for several days.
The principal suspect is also alleged to have sexually assaulted one of the minors during the ordeal.
The children were eventually released but were allegedly threatened with death if they disclosed what had happened to them.
Ngwena is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, September 7, where he is expected to face charges of defilement, kidnapping and child trafficking.
Detectives said investigations were continuing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and identify the second suspect.
The DCI said it would pursue anyone involved in the exploitation or abuse of children.
“Kidnapping, defilement and child trafficking are grave offences that rob children of their innocence, safety and future,” the agency said.
“Anyone involved in the trafficking, exploitation or abuse of children — or who facilitates such crimes — will be relentlessly pursued and brought to justice.”
The agency urged members of the public to report suspected cases of child abuse, trafficking and exploitation anonymously through its toll-free number, 0800 722 203, or WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.
It also urged the public not to fear reporting such crimes.
