Following Brazil's last-16 exit at the World Cup after a 2-1 defeat to Norway in New Jersey last Sunday, head coach Carlo Ancelotti has come under intense criticism, with football legends joining calls for his dismissal.
1994 World Cup winner Romario Faria de Souza is the latest Brazilian icon to voice his anger, saying he would even "take him to court" after the shock defeat to Norway, a team many in Brazil still regard as a bogey side.
"He cannot remain Brazil's head coach," Romario told talkSPORT.
"If I had been in charge of the federation, I would have walked into the dressing room, told him to go to hell and torn up his contract on the spot.
"The match against Norway was a disgrace. I'd even take him to court. Then we'll see what happens, but he cannot stay."
Ancelotti was appointed Brazil head coach in May 2025 to revive the Selecao's fortunes. However, instead of being given time to rebuild a team that has struggled to meet expectations for years, he is already facing mounting pressure, with many fans and pundits calling for his sacking.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest managers of all time, Ancelotti has won a record five UEFA Champions League titles. Even so, the immense expectations that come with managing Brazil have proven challenging, and restoring the national team to its former glory will require significant work.
The Selecao have now gone 24 years without winning the World Cup. Their closest attempt came in 2014, when they reached the semi-finals before suffering a humiliating 7-1 defeat to eventual champions Germany.
