Back to base! Sifuna announces Nairobi Linda Mwananchi rally

Nairobi is set to host the Linda Mwananchi Tour on September 13 as Senator Edwin Sifuna takes the movement’s grassroots campaign back to the capital.

Sifuna announced that the Nairobi leg will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026, marking the return of the tour to the city as its nationwide activities continue ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The Nairobi senator made the announcement on Wednesday, September 2, through his X account, where he shared a poster advertising the event and accompanied it with the message, “Back to base.”

The poster called on supporters to attend the Nairobi Linda Mwananchi Tour and also displayed the movement’s Paybill number, 3033049, and its website, lindamwananchi.com.

The announcement comes as the movement continues to take its political activities to different parts of the country, with Sifuna and other leaders using the tour to engage residents on issues affecting them.

The Linda Mwananchi Tour started its county engagements in February 2026, with Busia among its early stops.

Since then, the movement has taken its activities to Kajiado, Kakamega, Narok, Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Vihiga, Kisumu, Machakos, Thika, Kisii, Taita Taveta, Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Homa Bay and Meru.

The latest Nairobi event will be the second major stop in the capital after an earlier gathering held in March.

It follows the Meru leg of the tour on August 30, where former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza hosted Sifuna as the movement continued its county-to-county engagements.

During the Meru visit, residents presented Sifuna with farm produce, including yams, maize and cassava.

Sifuna also spoke to residents about political and economic issues while taking aim at President William Ruto’s 2022 “hustler” campaign.

The Meru engagement was briefly interrupted when police used teargas at a gathering in Makutano. Sifuna called for calm among supporters as the tour proceeded.

Growing opposition activity

The tour has emerged as part of the political activity building up to the 2027 General Election, with its leaders holding meetings in different counties and discussing governance and economic issues.

The movement has, however, encountered challenges in its efforts to register a political party name.

Its activities have also continued at a time of changes within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), including Sifuna’s removal as the party’s secretary-general.

Earlier visits to Trans Nzoia and Bungoma drew large crowds, while some political leaders used the events to publicly support Sifuna as a possible presidential candidate in the 2027 election.

The Homa Bay leg held in August was disrupted by violence that left two people dead and several others injured.

The September 13 Nairobi gathering will now return the Linda Mwananchi Tour to the capital, adding to the movement’s growing programme of grassroots meetings ahead of the next General Election.
